On 11/4, the Mid-City Security District went to the people for a vote, and was passed by almost 3 to 1 margin! The additional fee will appear on 2009 tax bills, and we should get funding from the city in March. We hope to have officers hired and patrolling by the end of March 2009!

Our Bill Passes the Senate! PDF  | Print |  E-mail

The bill to create the Mid-City Security District is through both the Louisiana House and Senate. We are waiting on Governor Jindal's signature to become law, and then on to the polls in November.

Once Jindal signs this legislation, the Mid-City Security District will still need to pass with more than 50% of the people in the district voting for it on November 4th (the same ballot as the Presidential Election).

Even though we will not have any money or authority until we pass a popular vote, we will have to start holding planning meetings, which will be open to the public. We will discuss how to structure our future meetings, elect officers, come up with a preliminary budget, and start getting feedback from the community. Be on the lookout for meeting announcements soon!

House Bill 1032 to create the Mid-City Security District just passed the Louisiana House and is on the Senate!

If the bill becomes a law, it will come to a vote later this year and could be in place as early as next year.

Special thanks to Representative Nick LaRusso and Tina Righteous for helping us get this far.

Representative Nick LaRusso has agreed to sponsor our bill in the State House. He even volunteered some staff time to help us write the bill!

Representative LaRusso's sponsorship is the first step towards seeing our security district become a reality. We will be working with his office over the next few months to iron out the details. If we can find a sponsor in the State Senate as well, we will be able to bring this thing to a vote there. If the bill gets past the House and the Senate, then we are on to a general election. Let the games begin!
