| How will this effect our quality of life? Will this work? Has this worked? | | Print | |

| We modeled our security district after the security district in Lakeview (the LCPD). After speaking with Sergeant Eckert (the Sergeant who runs the lakeview security district) it appears that yes, the security district has had a very strong impact there. There was a measured decline in crime before the storm, a spike right after the storm, and then another decline again since the storm. There are now more than 20 security districts in effect throughout the City of New Orleans and no security district has ever been voted down once it came up for election. I think that speaks to the effectiveness of the districts themselves. One of the reasons security districts work so well is that our officers will do minimal reporting (which takes away a lot from patrolling time). They will work as much as possible on preventing crimes and, if there is time, they will call in other officers when they see something that needs action. As far as quality of life, you can almost think of it as having our own, personal, quality of life officer. Quality of life issues can be reported to our Sergeant and then we can follow up to make sure its done. |
